Local businesses join forces to produce charity recipe book

Carmela recipe BookHorsham Publications have collaborated with local restaurant Carmela’s to produce their very own charity recipe book. All proceeds will go to local charities, such as Chestnut Tree House.

Horsham Publications is the proud proprietor of Horsham Pages, Holbrook Pages and most recently, Southwater Life. These local magazines are delivered to a cumulative total of over 21,000 residents within the Horsham area. Over the last four years, Editor Julie Maxted has built up successful working relationships with local businesses, including Carmela’s restaurant.

Carmela’s is an authentic Sicilian restaurant set up by Francesco Raciti and family. Dedicated to providing “a little touch of Sicily”, the 16th century listed building has been decorated in a contemporary, yet charming style. The menu has been carefully planned to include a range of traditional dishes, as well as a few with a more modern twist.

Over the last year, regular readers of Horsham Publications’ magazines have been treated to recipes provided by Carmela’s. These proved to be a popular feature, which has culminated in the production of a recipe book, created specifically with fundraising for charity in mind.

The charity recipe book includes 29 recipes provided by Francesco, which he carefully selected to include a wide variety of different dishes. From delicious breads, to enchanting pastas, meaty feasts, to vegetarian delights, you are sure to find something to everyone’s taste! Highlights include arancino (rice balls with ragout), insalata di arance e arringhe (orange and herring salad) and risotto da playa (seafood risotto). There are even a few desserts to finish off your meal; indulge in torta di pistachio e cioccolato (pistachio and chocolate cake) or panna cotta al rhubarb!

Francesco and JulieEditor Julie says, “This has been a great opportunity for us to develop what has already proved to be a successful collaboration between our magazines and Carmela’s. We hope that as well as raising money for charity, people will enjoy trying out recipes they might never have considered before!”

Copies can be obtained throughout Horsham during Piazza Italia. Alternatively you may pick one up from Carmela’s, 3 Denne Road, Horsham or by emailing dee@horshampublications.com with your debit or credit card details, whereby your copy can be sent to you direct. A minimum donation of £2.00 is kindly requested.
